Information has leaked to The Pirate Bay moments ago, which they subsequently leaked to Torrent Freak, that Swedish police are planning to raid the organization possibly within the next 24 hours.

The ranks at The Pirate Bay have learned that the police have already obtained warrants to raid their data facility. If this raid is carried out today, this will mark the second time The Pirate Bay has been unlawfully attacked by authorities influenced by Sweden’s most influential and affluent lobbyists.

As any developer can tell you, translating your software into different languages can be a pain. Even if you manage to track down willing volunteer translators for all the different languages you want your program to be in, you still need to work with people who you may end up having trouble communicating with.

The TRS-80 Model 100 is a computer you owe a lot to, even if you don’t recognize it. Released in 1983 by Tandy (now known as RadioShack) for $1099 USD, the Model 100 was one of the world’s first “notebook” computers. At the time its design was radical, as computers had always been large objects tethered to bulky CRT monitors; the Model 100 helped introduce concepts we all take for granted now, such as all-in-one construction, integrated LCD display, and the ability to run on battery power. When I show friends and colleagues the things I’m able to do on my rooted Android device, many of them end up asking me to work similar magic on their hardware. I’ve always been happy to help out, and after a bit of research at home (how to get root, custom ROMs that are available, etc) I usually come to work a day or two later equipped with my laptop and the appropriate software. Unfortunately, I’ve recently come to realize that this doesn’t always work out to the advantage of the other person, or to me for that matter.

Where do I begin? This idea entered my head the same day that Canonical announced Ubuntu For Android. That same day, information leaked about a desktop-capable Android, most likely Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. The appeal of tethering Ubuntu to a monitor, keyboard and mouse–from an Android phone– is tremendous. The appeal of attaching an Android phone to a monitor and gaining desktop functionality while only having to use one OS is much greater, I’m afraid…

One of the biggest new features of both Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” and the Galaxy Nexus was improved support for Near Field Communication (NFC). One of the most touted applications for NFC technology was Google Wallet, a project to replace your debit card with your phone. Leveraging the NFC hardware in the phone and Android’s built-in authentication methods (such as facial recognition unlocking, new in ICS), Google Wallet was supposed to be a more secure way to pay at supported retailers.

About 10 years ago I decided I didn’t feel comfortable running a proprietary operating system on my computer anymore and made the leap to Linux, and like many converts, I had to give up PC gaming.
