On July 23rd 2004, Trolltech and the KDE Free Qt Foundation announced the signing of an updated agreement between Trolltech and the KDE Free Qt Foundation about securing the availability of Qt for development of free software. The new agreement replaces the original agreement from June 1998 by adapting it to the current situation and providing a new text which addresses the problem in a more exact and more complete way. The city of Barcelona -- Spain's second largest city -- recently announced it will be phasing out its current Windows NT infrastructure in favor of open source software, according to IBLNEWS and other prominent Spanish-language news outlets.

We are looking for three programmers who are proficient in Perl or other web apps languages and can volunteer their time and skill to help us build the tools we will need to make three upcoming community marketing campaigns successful. The way that software is being produced and acquired is changing rapidly. The availability of high quality software, often for no licensing costs and with very user-friendly license terms, is challenging commercial companies producing products in the same software category. This new type of software is called either Free Software or Open Source Software (it will be referred to in this document as Free/Open Source Software) and is being attacked by the incumbent software product vendors as if it were a threat to the free market itself. The software industry is actually going through a well-known free market process that was first identified by the famed economist Joseph A. Schumpeter in 1942. It is called the process of creative destruction.
