Ubuntu’s HUD: Heuristic Universal Discovery

I’ve had various stints with KDE, which have all been very pleasant. In fact, I write about it all the time; but I’ve always been a Gnome man. Of course Gnome has gone it’s own way towards over-simplification and Ubuntu has shown its defiance with Unity.

In KDE, there are quite a few apps out there to manage your personal photo library with. The prominent ones that come to mind are DigiKam and Qwenview. While both of these applications are fantastic and highly regarded, they miss one huge mark...

Fedora Irresponsibly Lowers Memory Requirement To 512MB

Fedora 17 now officially sets it’s memory requirement for installation to 512MB. Before Fedora 17, the requirements and been a similarly unrealistic 768MB. A standard desktop installation with Gnome 3 in tow will not be able to perform realistically for any user. Of course Fedora is good for a great many configurations, including different desktop environments and server configurations, but allowing the average user to complete an installation in the standard desktop configuration at such a low bar, seems like a strange move.

Ubuntu One For KDE Has Arrived!

Yesterday, developer and blogger ShaneQFul posted about a new project that he’s been working on. One that fills an enormous void in the KDE space, and moreover, the Kubuntu space. No Ubuntu One integration for Dolphin, KDE’s default file manager. Shane answers this void with a new plugin.

From Lucid To Precise: An Upgrade Diary

This upgrade is directly inspired from an article by Joey Sneddon over at OMG! Ubuntu. Joey upgrades a 10.04 installation to 12.04 and gets some really great results. The jump from Lucid to Precise is a significant one, so seeing his success, minus the loss of his wallpaper, is great news for those of us that are able to stick with this Jurassic release.

Slackware Plays Nicer Than Ubuntu With Humble Botanicula Bundle

If you follow the Humble Bundle series of game packages, or if you’re one of the unlucky individuals to get your mitts on its latest incarnation, you might be privy to a bit of controversy regarding the package. Welcome to our first ever movie review at +The Powerbase. I can’t predict the future, but I can say that we probably won’t be doing many more of them. Today is a special case however, as the guys over at Humble Bundle, producers of many fine cross-platform gaming bundles, gave away a special gift to those who spent more than the average purchase price.
