http://www.eff.org/press/releases/computer-scientists-urge-c... This should help until Scott gets to it. Edit.......and for some reason, the link above has not "transformed itself into a hot link".....however if you copy and paste, you'll get the site. Thanks BernardSwiss.......I just went into the link and removed the "s" with instant results......Ta muchly, that is a piece of internet knowledge I had never heard of. So please add some more......what and why the "s" ? |

That's probably because it's an https:// link. Plain http:// usually works fine. |

Thanks BernardSwiss.....please see my response in my first post above. I am most grateful for the info. It's a bit of internet knowledge I have never come across. |

The 's' in 'https://' stands for 'secure' (or something like that). Typically regular web pages are not encrypted, but 'https://' pages are encrypted. |

You'll notice that the EFF still redirects the http address to an https one (as a matter of principle &/or advocacy) It varies from site to site. On the referrer end (LXer) it probably depends more on what filters are in the web-page/web-form referring code -- the code on LXer just doesn't recognize the https as a URL indicator. |

@Ridicully: PS: Did you post the link in the "Author" field? |

Quoting:The code on LXer just doesn't recognize the https as a URL indicator. But one can get around this issue by using the A (Anchor) form which is honoured by the LXer preprocessor like this https:... link . |

@BernardSwiss.......BLESS YOU ! I just took a look and indeed that happened when I previously edited the wretched thing to try to get rid of the "s" in https. I think you will find the entire thing is now working as it should. And I have learnt a lot as well. Never too old to learn new tricks. |
