What to Use in Linux: Open Or Closed Software?

This is a question that has struck a lot of new Linux users. Should they use closed source software when the open source alternatives are lacking? Today, I will talk about some of the applications I use and the advantages that each of them present.

If there are two applications that I have a love/hate relationship with, it's Adobe Reader and Evince. I use them daily, and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Evince, for instance, is solid, lightweight and a really hassle-free way for me to quickly zip through a PDF file without chewing through system resources.
