Review: A+, Network+, Security+ Exams in a Nutshell

To paraphrase Mr. Rogers, "can you say whirlwind tour?" That's what the latest offering in the "In a Nutshell" series from O'Reilly reads like. That's not a pejorative statement; there's just a ton of information crammed in between the covers of this book. Actually, it is something of an experiment and doesn't quite follow the traditional pattern of this series.

First off, the book addresses three "sort of" related topics. They are related in that the three certifications in question are all administered by CompTIA and they are all considered "entry-level". Secondly, the content for each individual exam (the book covers six exams total) is contained in a scant 150 pages each. Third, each exam is described in three chapters and there is a structure to those chapters...
