This is a very good 2 part series about the WHATWG. The Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG), is a loose collaboration of browser vendors (Mozilla, Opera, and others), who focus their improvements towards creating Web applications.

The Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG), is a loose collaboration of browser vendors (Mozilla, Opera, and others), who focus their improvements towards creating Web applications. Part 1 focuses on two specifications being developed by WHATWG: Web Applications 1.0 (HTML5) and Web Forms 2.0. Part 2 covers the radical cleanup of XHTML, the W3C's new Rich Client Activity, and the work in process at the W3C to specify the future of Web markup.
