RMS on GPLv3, DRM, GFDL, and OSI
Richard Stallman keynoted a the two-day international GPLv3 conference. As well as covering the philosophy behind the proposed changes for version three of the GNU GPL, he described the implementation. A full transcript including the Q&A is now online. He explained how Digital Restrictions Management was tackled without tackling it at all - by simply ensuring the four freedoms of Free Software, the problems of DRM can be nullified. Software patents and licence compatibility were the other two areas he highlighted as being main changes in the draft for GPLv3. As well as the presentation, the transcript includes the Questions and Answers session which followed. This covers the goals of the GNU Free Documentation License, whether or not there will be official translations of version three of the GNU GPL, and Stallman discusses OSI with Michael Tiemann. |
