Preparing the 2007 (Office) battles

Lots of rumours, press articles and public comments about MS Office 2007 appeared on the internet recently. As I haven't blogged these last days, I would like to comment a bit more on this topic.
We just released OpenOffice.org 2.0.2 . It is a minor release although we have added some new features and fixed lots of bugs.

However, the big news of last week come from Redmond. Microsoft not only published a press release with the screenshots of its upcoming Office 2007 (aka Office 12), it did also give way to some low-level attack PR campaign. In this interview from Alan Yates , the Microsoft executive goes on to say that Microsoft Office is ten years ahead its rival OpenOffice.org . The problem of Mr Yates, however, is that we read his interview and were not able to find the reason why they were ten years ahead of OpenOffice.org . The OpenOffice.org community reacted through Louis Suarez-Potts, its community manager, and Michael Meeks, a Novell engineer working on the development of OpenOffice.org . Here are their answers.

In the mean time, the battle in the world of office suites seems to brew on every front. After Google had acquired Writely, the online word processor, we got a lot of comments and feedback about the future of OpenOffice.org as a web-ready office suite.

I would like to provide some insight on what OpenOffice.org is preparing for the future.
