IBM Takes #1 Position in UNIX Server Revenue, Leads Blade Server Revenue
According to Gartner, a leading provider of research and analysis about the global information technology industry, IBM increased its share in UNIX revenue to take the number one position, gaining 3.4 points in 2005 and growing UNIX server revenue 13.2 percent overall in 2005, based on year-to-year comparisons. In addition, IBM grew 70.8 percent in 2005 year-to-year, based on blade server revenue, to take 41.9 percent of the revenue in the full year and 43 percent in the fourth quarter 2005.
-- IBM is number one in worldwide server revenue with 35.1 percent of revenue share in 4Q05 and 32.1 percent full year 2005 -- IBM grew its UNIX-based revenue year-to-year (YTY) for the sixth consecutive quarter ending 4Q05 -- with 32.5 percent of revenue share, gaining 2.6 points YTY with total revenue up 3.2 percent YTY. For the full year, IBM was first in UNIX server revenue, with 30.1 percent of revenue share, gaining 3.4 points and revenue up 13.2 percent YTY. -- IBM continued to lead in blade server revenue share for the seventh consecutive quarter ending 4Q05, with 43 percent of the revenue and total revenue up 38.5 percent YTY.
