I'm sorry to say that Debian's hosting of machines at Above.Net has come to an end...we are now actively soliciting hosting for these two machines

Hi,

I'm sorry to say that Debian's hosting of machines at Above.Net has come to an end. Michael Shields and Steve Osborn have hosted critical Debian machines for over 6 years now in what's been one of the best and hassle-free donated hostings we've had. I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank them (and Above.Net) for their generosity over the years.

The machines are being shipped backed to HP in the short term for safe-keeping. The services they run are [probably] being (also in the short-term) relocated to other existing debian.org machines.

In the slightly longer term, we are now actively soliciting hosting for these two machines; they are both HP DL380s[a], i.e. 2U rack mounted machines.

The hosting must:

o be a donation, i.e. gratis. Debian can't pay for it's own hosting.

o be in a managed facility with decent environmental conditions. o be on a UPS or otherwise have reliable power.

o have access time for the local admin measured in hours, not days.

o have very good unmetered bandwidth (i.e. >> 100Mbit and preferably Gbit or better).

o have good and reliable connectivity. o not have any enforced firewalling or proxying.

o not be short term (12 months or better[c]).

o be done with the knowledge and agreement of your employer or other appropriate authority.

o [for ftp-master:] be in the US[d].

Advantages would be:

o being on or connected to Internet2.

o having somewhere accessible to DSA to plug the iLO[b] into or failing that having remotely controllable power-switch capabilities.

o not be shaped or (artificially) limited bandwidth.

If you think you could offer hosting under these conditions, please send details to [e-mail:debian-admin@debian.org].

[c] Obviously this is donation, so this is not an obligation, just the length of time you hope to be able to allow us to host the machines with you.

[d] To avoid continuing issues with BXA export regulations, it makes lives of US developers easier if ftp-master is in the US. Technically, it'd be possible to work around having ftp-master outside the US (by relocating the NEW queue to a machine in the US), but it'd be a lot of work that I don't want us to have to do unless it's necessary. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Processed by Mailcrypt 3.5.8
