Top News ---------------------------------------- Mandrakesoft is dead, long live Mandriva!

The top story this week is the renaming of the company! Following our merger with Conectiva we decided the new company needed a new name to reflect its combined heritage, so we combined Mandrake and Conectiva and came up with Mandriva (pronounced 'man-dree-vuh'). Correspondingly, the distribution becomes Mandriva Linux, the Club becomes Mandriva Club, and so on. All our addresses will be gradually changed over the coming weeks, and most of the new ones work already, so get used to using them! You can read the press release that announced the new name here. --> http://www.mandriva.com/company/press/pr?n/pr/corporate/2551

Mandriva Releases ---------------------------------------- Mandriva Limited Edition 2005 is available!

After a busy and productive period of testing and final development, Mandriva Linux Limited Edition 2005 (the release formerly known as 10.2) has been completed and made available! Mandriva Club members can download both freely redistributable and commercial DVD and CD images via BitTorrent or HTTP, while the general public can buy a boxed edition containing both regular and 64 bit DVDs complete with commercial applications and drivers from the Mandriva Store=20 ( http://store.mandriva.com ) or perform a network installation of=20 the freely redistributable version from one of our many public FTP=20 mirrors.

Limited Edition 2005 is a transitional release between the old and new release schedules and naming systems, but just like any other Mandriva release it's chock full of new features and new software, including kernel 2.6.11.4, KDE 3.3.2, GNOME 2.8.2, Firefox 1.0.2 and more. You can find out more about the new version in the press release: --> http://www.mandriva.com/company/press/pr?n/pr/products/2552 You can find out how to get hold of it here. --> http://www.mandrivalinux.com/en-us/ftp.php3

Mandriva Clustering updated version available

Last issue we told you all about the deployment of Mandriva's clustering solution on HP's new HPC1 high-performance cluster. The refinements made to the distribution for this project are now available to everyone, as they have been included in an updated version of the Mandriva Linux Clustering solution which is now available for general purchase. Mandriva Linux Clustering brings together the best free software clustering tools and Mandriva's renowned focus on ease of use to create a powerful yet accessible clustering solution. It includes support for SCI and Infiniband interconnect technology and the tools included to ease deployment include PXE and ka-deploy for easy installation across multiple nodes, urpmi (with its powerful parallel functionality) for simple software updates across many nodes and drakcluster for easy administration. What's happening at Mandriva? ---------------------------------------- Mandriva Club name contest held

Club members submitted their ideas for increasing the spread and use of the new name, and the lucky grand winner will receive an HP laptop, pre-loaded with Mandriva Linux. The second prize winner will receive a GlobeTrotter, the third prize winner will win a copy of Mandriva Move with a 128MB USB key, and the lucky fourth to tenth prize winners will have their Club subscriptions extended. Mandriva in the news ---------------------------------------- Limited Edition 2005 review at TuxMachines

TuxMachines were quick on the draw with the first review of the new Limited Edition 2005 release, available for your inspection. What did they think? Well..."The list of included applications and desktop environments is as always unsurpassed. This release of Mandriva is definitely a step in the right direction for Mandrivalinux. I was impressed by the speed of operations and the stability of the system. I haven't felt this good about a Mandrake/Mandriva release in a long time. One might miss the bleeding edge applications until they work within this new stable release, then one can appreciate the effort Mandriva is making eliminate bugs and provide a reliable system." Just what we were hoping for! --> http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/639

NewsForge review of Limited Edition 2005

Following hot on the heels of TuxMachines, NewsForge have also got out a review of Limited Edition 2005, and they loved it as well! It has all of the necessary desktop software, plus alternate desktop environments and window managers for those who want to try out other interfaces." You can read the whole review here. --> http://os.newsforge.com/os/05/04/26/2015205.shtml?tid2&tid130
