Firefox: the Malware Stopper!

Cindy Webb's "Filter" Column in The Washington Post has a nice synopsis--"Firefox Flames Internet Explorer"--of the news stories about Mozilla's Firefox browser's market share gains against Microsoft's Internet Explorer. It's so gratifying that Mozilla.org has come from "abject failure" a few years ago to making Firefox a mainstream winner--on GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. This is not even to mention their successes with Thunderbird (email) and SunBird (calendar).

I'd just like to amplify this quote Cindy turned up which highlights how much better off users are who can the IE icon and use Firefox:

"During a recent six-week period, I conducted a small spyware experiment on my Windows computer. I kept track of days I opened Microsoft Internet Explorer. At the close of each day, I ran Spybot, a detection and prevention program. Here's what happened: On nearly every day I used Internet Explorer, I was infected with a new batch of malware -- spyware or adware. On days I used Mozilla Firefox for browsing and avoided IE, without exception I remained uninfected." (Paul Andrews)
