LXer update: The voting system has been redone
Prior to now, readers could vote on stories, but they only get two choices: "Yay" or "Nay", nothing else. This has caused a lot of confusion as to what the votes really mean. Following the advice of some of the readers, I have implemented a new voting system that solves some current problems, and is scalable to include even more abilities in the future. The first thing you'll notice is that the system now asks you to vote on a number of factors:
You may abstain from voting on as many of the question as you like. Abstained votes do nothing to the score of the article. Once you have voted, your scores are figured up and the score of the article is adjusted accordingly. Furthermore, we can use the voting data to more accurately decide which stories were inappropriate for the newswire, and adjust our editorial review process accordingly. You will notice that all the votes that you cast in the old system have been copied over to the new system. As a result of the new system offering additional choices, I had to put something into all the fields. Therefore, if you previously voted negatively on a story, the new vote reflects all 3 choices as negative. You may easily go back and change any vote done in the past, to correct this, if you wish. Just go back to the story, and click on the Vote link. I think this will be a fun feature, and I hope you do, too. As always, if you have any more suggestions on the voting system, or any other feature of LXer, please do let me know. Dave |
