Canonical announced a few days ago that a kernel update is available for its Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) Linux operating system, fixing eight vulnerabilities found in the Linux kernel packages.

The following eight Linux kernel vulnerabilities affect Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal): CVE-2012-5374, CVE-2012-5375, CVE-2013-1060, CVE-2013-2140, CVE-2013-2232, CVE-2013-2234, CVE-2013-4162, and CVE-2013-4163.

As usual, you can click on each one to see how it affects your system, or go here for in-depth descriptions, as it affects other Linux distributions as well.

The security flaws can be fixed if you upgrade your system(s) to the linux-image-3.5.0-40 (3.5.0-40.62) package(s). For detailed instructions on how to upgrade your system, see the following link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Upgrades.

We inform everyone that Ubuntu 13.04, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS also received kernel updates today. Don't forget to reboot your computer after the upgrade.
