Scientists Create Virtual Human Brain, Runs on Linux
The most sophisticated virtual human brain so far has been reported in the current issue of Science. It is impressive.

Called "Spaun," it consists of 2.5 million virtual neurons and can process visual information and draw very simple answers to a limited range of questions about its visual memory. It does not really "learn" new things in the formal way but the processing ability is unprecedented. Spaun was created using the Nengo simulation software package, and run on clusters Orca and Kraken of the SharcNet High Performance Computing Consortium. In other words, it is run on a Linux based supercomputer. It takes up about 24GB of ram and takes about 2.5 hours of processing for one second of simulated time. Full Story |
