It looks like the rumored GNOME Edition of Ubuntu, named GNOMEbuntu will become a reality on October 18th, 2012.

In case you don't know yet, October 18th is the official release date for the upcoming Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) operating system.

At the same time, the Ubuntu Gnome Community and Jeremy Bicha will prepare the first release of GNOMEbuntu, an Ubuntu-based operating system created especially for developers.

GNOMEbuntu will probably be based on the Ubuntu 12.10 release and it will definitely include GNOME Display Manager (GDM) and the GNOME Shell user interface, all powered by the GNOME 3.6 desktop environment.

Even if it has a website, there's no release at the moment. Jeremy Bicha says that he will release an Alpha version very soon, and that GNOMEbuntu is not the final name of the distro.
