Softpedia is the first to announce today, July 26th, that the third Alpha version of the upcoming Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) operating system is now available for download. As usual, we've grabbed a copy of it in order to keep you up-to-date with the latest changes in the Ubuntu 12.10 development.

What's new in Ubuntu 12.10 Alpha 3? Well, Ubuntu 12.10 Alpha 3 is now powered by the Linux kernel 3.5.0-6.6 packages, based on the stable Linux 3.5 kernel upstream release, and the latest development version of the upcoming GNOME desktop environment, GNOME 3.5.4, which brings lots of new features, such as revamped Nautilus (now called Files) and Empathy apps.

The first version of Unity 6 desktop interface landed in Ubuntu 12.10 Alpha 3 bringing lots of bug fixes and neat features, such as a revamped Session Indicator and updated Date and Time Indicator.

Moreover, the Mozilla Firefox 15.0 Beta web browser and the LibreOffice 3.6 RC2 office suite were added in this development release of Ubuntu 12.10.

Last but not least the Jockey app has been replaced with the Drivers app, which appears in the System Settings panel. Xorg Server has been updated to version 1.12 and Mesa to version 8.0.3.
