Debian has given users more power than they have ever had

Debian GNU/Linux was started in 1993 by Ian Murdock and was meant to be a small Linux distribution developed and maintained by hackers. Instead, now in 2004 it's a big distribution with a well-organised community of developers and users.

technobeast: Who is Martin Michlmayr in a few words and what is his current role in Debian? Martin Michlmayr: I have been involved in various Free Software projects for over 10 years, and I'm the current Debian Project Leader. This is an elected role for the term of one year, and I am currently serving my second term. This role involves two areas. First, in the external area, I represent Debian to the outside world, for example by going to conferences and working with companies on strategic partnerships. The second role is the internal one which involves coordination, motivation and management within the project.
