An admitted Xubuntu fanboy discovers a whole 'nother way of doing things, and finds a completely new and wonderful philosophy on Linux for the desktop.

It's hard to know what you're missing when X/K/Ubuntu is just about all you've known. One comes to accept certain things as "normal," like updates that break a perfectly working system, or the race to faster boot times even if it causes a whole new set of problems.

Slackware (or a derivative close to Slackware) is hardly where one would expect to find an Ubuntu convert with little Linux expertise. But in a quest for simplicity and stability with very long support life, the author finds himself in a delightful new and unfamiliar world.
