Ubuntu 11.10 Will Have a New Login Manager

As you all probably know already, the upcoming Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) operating system will have a new default display manager, called LightDM.

LightDM is an operating system's display manager, also known as login manager. Few people know that a display manager is also in charge with the remote logins via XDMCP protocol and manages the X servers.
Why LightDM for Ubuntu 11.10? The answer is simple: because we need a new and themeable login screen that matches the Unity interface.
But first, the development team wants your help. They want you to try and test LightDM as much as possible, and report bugs as you find them. Full Story |
