Dear Ubuntu 9.04 users, the time has come to say goodbye to the Jaunty Jackalope release of the popular Ubuntu operating system. One month from today, on October 23rd, it reaches end of life.

Almost 18 months ago, on the 23rd of April, 2009, Canonical was proud to announce the release of Ubuntu 9.04, dubbed Jaunty Jackalope, which introduced features such as GNOME 2.26.1, Linux kernel 2.6.28.9, LZMA compression, automatic keyboard detection, Computer Janitor app, Brasero, PulseAudio, and of course, the wonderful system notifications powered by notify-osd!

Starting with October 23rd, 2010, Canonical will stop "feeding" the Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) operating system with security or critical fixes, and software updates!

Therefore, we strongly recommend upgrading your Ubuntu 9.04 machine(s) to the current version (Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS). Or wait two more weeks for the brand-new and amazing Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat), due for release on October 10th, 2010.
