I've owned this book for quite awhile and discovered that I have never reviewed it. I determined to correct my oversight and to share my insights regarding Goldwasser and Letscher's book with you. Of course, the snake head on the cover is totally inaccurate, given that the Python language was actually named for Graham Chapman, John Cleese, and company (or Flying Circus, rather). I suppose the snake's head just looked more cool against a jet black background, though. Is the book itself just as cool? Let's find out.

The first thing to be prepared for is how the book is written. Both Goldwasser and Letscher instruct at the Saint Louis University, so the book is presented very much like a textbook. That's the good and the bad of it, depending on what you think of textbooks. I find that books used at the university level aren't always the best books to learn from if you aren't sitting in a classroom. Textbooks are designed to have their teaching methods modified by an instructor and in an interactive group environment. They don't always work if you are sitting alone at a computer trying to learn OOP in Python. Full Story |
