On our last issue we asked which e-mail application (client) you used
to read this newsletter. A surprising 20% of respondants said they
use another e-mail client besides Mozilla, Microsoft Outlook, Opera
and Eudora and I wonder which could it be. So if you answer or use
another e-mail application, let us know which is it, and we will share

Mozilla Links - English Edition
Issue # 6 - November 11, 2003
================================================
Welcome back to Mozilla Links!
On our last issue we asked which e-mail application (client) you used
to read this newsletter. A surprising 20% of respondants said they
use another e-mail client besides Mozilla, Microsoft Outlook, Opera
and Eudora and I wonder which could it be. So if you answer or use
another e-mail application, let us know which is it, and we will share
those names with other readers.
Recently two projects have called my attention. The first one is the
MozillaBook (http://mozillabook.mozdev.org), a project aiming to
create a Mozilla user guide. This will become an important
contribution to the Mozilla community, specially for those switching
from other browsers and other Internet applications. The second, Quick
Manager, improves two great Mozilla features usability, themes and
extensions; provinding a simple interface to browse and install
available ones.
As always, your comments are very much appreciated. Please send them
to [E-mail:newsletter-feedback@mozilla.org]

Featured Extension: Mozilla Amazon Browser
(developed by Fabio Serra)
Mozilla Amazon Browser (MAB) is a powerful tool for online shoppers.
It allows to search the large amazon.com catalog, in the same way you
are used to by entering keywords and selecting a specific category if
desired: popular music, DVDs, books, electronics and others.
Results are displayed in a simple list. Click on any and you will see
its picture and editorial comments if available. The big benefit?
You will avoid downloading unnecessary images and other contents and
just focus on the products of your interest, saving a lot of time.
If you like amazon.com and think you won't miss your Gold Box, try it

You can enhance even more your web browsing experience with Mozilla
keyboard shortcuts. From opening and closing windows and tabs to
searching for text in current pages, there seems to be a keyboard
shortcut for every single frequent task you may want to perform.
We have compiled a quick reference card for Mozilla browser Windows
most useful key strokes. It's available at Mozilla Links website as
a PDF file, ready to print:

Mozilla Links PowerTip: Display Web Pages Quicker
(contributed by MozillaTips.com, edited by Percy Cabello)
When Mozilla starts downloading a web page, after a certain time it
will start trying to display (render) it. However if after more data
is received, Mozilla determines a new render is required, to fit new
elements like images or form elements, it will have to undo what has
done and re-render the whole page again.
In dial-up connections it is advisable to let Mozilla wait a little
bit more to start a "definitive" render.
To do this,
- Type about:config in the Location bar to open the Preferences list
- Look for nglayout.initialpaint.delay , right click on it and select
Modify.
- Type nglayout.initialpaint.delay for the preference name and 60 in the
preference value.
- If you couldn't find the setting, just add it by right clicking on any
setting. Select New/Integer. Type nglayout.initialpaint.delay for the
preference name and 60 in the preference value.
This may prevent Mozilla performing multiple renderings of the same page,
and display the page faster.
