Red Hat’s first annual “summit” for Linux users opens today in New Orleans, and look for the software firm to announce some new deals, Forbes reported Tuesday.
Open source is open to exploit, says EC tech chief
A senior figure at the European Commission launched an outspoken attack on several major US IT firms on Monday, accusing them of exerting too much influence on the progress of the open source community. Jesús Villasante, the head of software technologies at the EC's Information Society and Media Directorate General, said big companies such as HP, IBM and Sun are just using the open source community as subcontractors rather than encouraging the community to develop independent commercial products.
Windows wipes floor with Linux
Windows is taking the server OS market by storm - and Linux has no hope of catching it, according to market researcher IDC. Its latest quarterly server survey found that income from sales of Microsoft Windows servers even matched enterprise Unix server revenues.

Linux powers 108Mbps MIMO OFDM Wi-Fi demo
Cavium and Airgo are demonstrating a hardware/software reference design for 108Mbps wireless broadband gateways at the Computex tradeshow this week in Taipei, Taiwan. The design includes embedded Linux, Cavium's MIPS32 Nitrox Soho security processor, and "True MIMO" wireless cards from Airgo. It targets SOHO (small-office, home-office) and SME (small, medium enterprise) broadband wireless routers.

KDE 3.4.1 Released
KDE 3.4.1 has been released. This is the first translation and bugfix release to the 3.4 series, it includes all security updates to date, numerous minor fixes and improved translations including a new Greek translation pack. In the beginning of things, open source was about open everything. I remember joining an irc channel # on efnet back in 1993 and chatting with people who could make things happen with computers...really make things happen. Coders, managers, hackers...they were all there and a tight nit core of about 6 of us stayed in touch for about 7 years until we went our separate ways and began to use irc less and less. The thing that I remember the most is the fact that when I joined their little group, I was a complete and total n00b. Not just a n00b to Open Source...but to computers altogether.
