Magma-Branded PCI-to-PCI Expansion System to Support Red Hat Linux 9

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Mar 29, 2004 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Mobility Electronics, Inc. (Nasdaq: MOBE), a leading provider of innovative portable computing solutions for the mobile electronics device user, announced today it has added support for the Red Hat(R) Linux(TM) 9 operating system in its MAGMA(TM) PCI-to-PCI Expansion Systems.

In the past, Mobility Electronics' MAGMA operating system support has backed the Windows(R), Mac OS(R), and Solaris(TM) environments. Adding Red Hat Linux to the list of supported operating systems will allow Mobility Electronics to support a substantial user base with a new method to add more PCI slots to their Linux-based desktop computer or server.

Mobility Electronics' MAGMA-branded line of patented PCI expansion products provide a cost effective method to add additional PCI slots to desktop computers and servers, and eliminate the need to purchase a high-end, expensive host machine.

"Red Hat Linux support has been released in response to customer demand to use our PCI-to-PCI Expansion products with host computers running under the Linux operating system," said Charlie Mollo, chief executive officer of Mobility Electronics. "By offering support to the Linux community, we will be able to target new customers in robust application environments used by the military, scientific, and university markets."

At this time, Red Hat Linux 9 support is specific to PCI-to-PCI Expansion Systems within the MAGMA product line. No driver is required for these systems to be recognized by the host machine. The computer BIOS software recognizes and configures the MAGMA PCI Expansion System automatically.

In the coming months, Mobility Electronics will release a MAGMA-branded Red Hat Linux driver for their CardBus-to-PCI Expansion product line. This will allow Linux-based laptop computer users to take advantage of Mobility Electronics' line of portable PCI expansion products. The CardBus-to-PCI Expansion solution provides the method to use standard PCI cards through the CardBus (PC Card) slot available on most laptop computers in the market today.

Mobility Electronics' PCI expansion products lead the industry in PCI Bus expansion and remote connectivity. Sold under the MAGMA brand, Mobility provides innovative, high-tech expansion solutions to major OEMs in various industries in more than 45 countries. Some of the category's leading solutions include CardBus-to-PCI Expansion Systems, PCI-to-PCI Expansion Systems, bus expansion link kits, Split Bridge(R) technology, and serial adapters for embedded applications, servers, notebooks, and desktop computers. The MAGMA brand also has a broad portfolio of expansion and connectivity related patents.
