NetScout Extends Performance Management Offerings for NetFlow
WESTFORD, Mass., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScout Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTCT), a leading provider of network and application performance management solutions, today announced the expansion of its solutions for monitoring and analysis of Cisco NetFlow data. NetScout introduced a new, highly scalable nGenius Performance Manager Appliance tailored for cost- effective and high-density monitoring and analysis of large NetFlow-enabled network environments. Responding to the growing number of enterprises adopting NetFlow as an economical, application-aware source of traffic data, NetScout has engineered a security-hardened, high-performance nGenius Performance Manager appliance dedicated to aggregating and analyzing data from large deployments of NetFlow- capable switches and routers, such as those made by Cisco. The nGenius Performance Manager Appliance for NetFlow, delivered on either Windows 2003 or Red Hat Linux platforms, scales to support data collected from thousands of NetFlow interfaces. "Companies are increasingly adopting NetFlow as a cost-effective way to establish and extend network performance management with application-level visibility," said Jasmine Noel, partner at IT analyst firm Ptak, Noel & Associates. "NetFlow delivers granular data on how specific applications are used and how usage impacts network performance as a whole. Thus, by seamlessly integrating NetFlow into its comprehensive analysis solution, NetScout improves customers' ability to monitor and control network performance and capacity from a business perspective." With multiple enterprise licenses of nGenius Performance Manager pre- installed and pre-licensed on the new appliance, IT organizations will benefit from quick time-to-value based on rapid deployment of the most cost-effective solution available in the market today. Additionally, statistics from other intelligent data sources on the network, such as SNMP MIBs or NetScout's nGenius Probes, can be collected and analyzed alongside the NetFlow information for unified viewing of application performance across an entire enterprise network. NetScout has also upgraded its nGenius Solution to support NetFlow version 9, an extensible template-based data interchange format, which is the basis for the IETF's IP Flow Information Export (ipfix) standard. NetFlow version 9's flexible format supports the addition of new fields and record types to accommodate data from emerging networking technologies such as IPv6, MPLS and Multicast. This will allow NetScout's customers to more easily stay current with the latest, cutting-edge evolutions of NetFlow technology. Numerous NetScout customers, such as Shanghai Unicom, rely on the nGenius Solution for NetFlow collection and analysis. See today's related press release: "Shanghai Unicom Deploys NetScout's nGenius Solution To Leverage Netflow For Network Performance Management." NetScout solutions for NetFlow collection include its NetFlow-optimized nGenius Flow Collector device, and its full suite of nGenius Probes for specialized network instrumentation. "NetScout has made a strategic commitment to deliver the best NetFlow- based performance management products in the industry," said Michael Szabados, senior vice president of product operations at NetScout. "Our new bundled appliance and version 9 support demonstrate our resolve to provide flexible, cost-effective, technologically superior, enterprise-class solutions which allow our customers to successfully leverage NetFlow as a valuable source of application-aware performance data." Availability, Pricing and Platform Support The nGenius Performance Manager Appliance for NetFlow is currently available at a list price of $140K on either Windows or Linux-based appliances. Support for NetFlow version 9 is available in firmware release CDM 3.1, which will be available this month. About NetScout Systems NetScout Systems, Inc.
