Siemens Business Services sets its sights on Linux – and brings Red Hat on board
/noticias.info/
Linux software has established itself on the market and enjoys demand
from a steadily growing customer base. According to IDC market
analysts, its annual growth rate of 27% makes it the server operating
system with the strongest growth figures for the period from 2003 to
2008. By 2008, it is estimated that almost every third server worldwide
will be based on a Linux installation. As an "Authorized Support
Partner" of Red Hat in EMEA*, Siemens will in future address public
sector customers and large enterprises in this segment with its
offerings for consulting, implementation, migration and even full-scale
operation support.
Siemens Business Services brings many years of experience with it and
has carried out a number of large-scale open source projects. For
example, for the customer Siemens 200 Unix servers were replaced by
Intel-based Linux servers and personnel data records for around 340,000
employees migrated - all without interrupting productive operation.
Other projects were carried out, for example, for the Belgian credit
institution Credit Agricole and the Hanover Regional Finance Office.
The latest order comes from Eczacibasi Holding in Turkey, one of the
largest groups of companies in the country. Eczacibasi has commissioned
Siemens Business Services to install Linux servers in Istanbul in
preparation for the enterprise-wide migration of SAP applications from
Unix to Linux platforms.
