Jonathan Schwartz: Solaris is the Future of Unix

Schwartz appears to include Linux as part of UNIX's bright future.

In this interview, Eugenia Loli-Queru of OSNews catches Jonathan in a sensible mood. She states, "we asked Jonathan about his opinion on the future of Unix and he sees a 'vibrant and dynamic' future for all 'branches and leaves of the same tree', including BSD and Linux..." (humor ommitted).
From personal experience, this fits more the mood of the day-to-day Sun than the bleps from the media. While Solaris may indeed be the future of UNIX, it's not even close as a desktop OS.
But, if OpenSolaris evolves like OpenOffice.org, then converts to open-source may come from places GNU/Linux can't conquer. I wouldn't mind seeing a close to Linux OS taking the place of Microsoft Windows in businessland.
One thing that this interview does not discuss is the possibility of OpenSolaris and Linux forging alliances on some projects, such as driver support. We'll see more about OpenSolaris in weeks to come.
