Lulu, founded by open source pioneer Bob Young, has opened a new software marketplace geared at allowing individual developers and projects to publish boxed sets, CD/DVD media kits, and printed docs and e-books themselves, and drive proceeds and donations back to the projects.
"We make the economics work such that the majority of revenue always goes directly to the pockets of the creator, whether they sell one book or one million." says Young. "Our business model is to make artists, authors, musicians and now software developers more successful. And we only do well when they're doing great,"
The initial products include pre-orders of the Fedora Core 3 boxed set, with a manual, and OpenOffice.org with instructional materials, with more products on their way.
You can support many of your favorite projects by buying the software at http://www.lulu.com/static/boxed_sets.php or publish your own. |
