Linux users in Wales now have a choice of two office suites. OpenOffice.org was released in Welsh last month, and now Kywaith Kyfieithu has announced a Welsh version of the new KOffice 1.3.3.

KOffice in Welsh involved the translation of nearly 8,000 pieces of text over 5 months by Kywaith Kyfieithu volunteers who used the Kyfieithu web-based translation system and the Korrect translation database. Kywaith Kyfieithu is a group of volunteers throughout Wales, whose aim is to increase the use of Welsh on computers. The project was launched on St David's Day, 2003, and has already translated almost half of the KDE desktop, along with a selection of other end-user programs like Tux Paint, Psi, Scribus, Rosegarden, etc. A liveCD of software in Welsh (Cymrux) was released in May 2004.
