Linux User & Developer Awards Recognise Excellence in the Linux Industry
London - Linux User & Developer magazine last night
announced the winners of this year's prestigious Linux User &
Developer Awards at a gala event held in London's Royal Lancaster
Hotel. Hosted by comedian and renowned comedy scriptwriter, Barry
Cryer, the night was a spectacular success - the biggest and best
awards show in the Linux industry. There were 12 panel-nominated
award categories, with best Open Source Project going to Sun
Microsystems for OpenOffice.org. In addition, there were five reader-
nominated awards with Linus Torvalds receiving the highest number of
votes in the category of personal contribution to the Linux
industry. "The aim of the awards is to recognise the very best in product
and service solution, as well corporate and personal contributions,
in the Linux industry," said Maggie Meer, director of Horsepower
Media and publisher of LinuxUser & Developer magazine. "This year we
have witnessed the highest number of entries to date, making the
judges job extremely difficult but also indicating the increasing
popularity of Linux within mainstream IT." This year the awards are in association with OpenForum Europe, an
