The FFmpeg/Libav situation
One year and a half ago, an important part of FFmpeg developers decided to change the way the project was managed. This led to some kind of takeover, mainly to get rid of the old maintainer dictatorship, but also to change development methods, redefine objectives, etc. Then, for various reasons I will quickly explain, these people made a new project called Libav.
I will try first to summarize the most objectively as I can what was the situation, why it led to the current one, and basically how things are linked together. In a second time though, I will try to explain why, as a FFmpeg/Libav war child, I finally chose one side, and what it means daily.

Theodore Ts'o finally had a chance to experience GNOME 3.4 in Debian
With my new laptop, I've installed Debian Testing on it, and so I finally had a chance to experience GNOME 3.4 personally. Wow, it really is as unusable as everyone has said; painfully so. So, next stop: xfce, as I had planned. Which means I ran into more problems.
Infographic of Debian Version 1.0 disponible
Infographics are visual representations of information. These charts are used where information needs to be explained in a more dynamic, such as maps, journalism and technical manuals, educational or scientific purposes. So I made my first infographic on Debian, which sought to put all the information (possible) I have in my lecture on this great project. What motivated me to make this stuff was the difficulty that the general public has to understand Debian, its areas, their numbers or their general operation.
A history of Mozilla browsers design
Writing the piece on FOSS design, it made me think about past experiences in various communities and brought back memories to the point when I decided to put down some thoughts on Mozilla browsers (won't cover other apps today) design history as I saw it, both as an user and from my involvement with its community. Even if the screenshots below are taken mostly from Wikipedia (try to run 10-15 years old binaries on a current Linux desktop), all the experiences are mine.
Testing Codeigniter with Firebird
I’ve been using Codeigniter as my development platform and framework of choice since last year. Being a ten year PHP developer, Codeigner was a refreshing way of coding web apps with PHP. The first ones developments I did with Codeigniter were using MySQL, a very used database. But since I’ve also been using Firebird SQL Database from ten or more years ago, I decided to give a try to the Codeigniter-Firebird duo.

Xonotic Developer news Issue #1
So, as we’ve promised, here’s the first real issue of WoX-BloX! For those who’ve missed the good news, WoX-BloX translates to “World of Xonotic – Blogs”: an insider developer blog for the masses, so you don’t have to mess with reading cryptic git commit logs, go treasure hunting in the depths of our forums, or lurk for hours on the developers’ IRC channel for information morsels to feed your hunger for Xonotic WIP news (however, you’re welcomed to do so, if you want ).
Get a GNOME 2-like menu with Classicmenu Indicator in Ubuntu 11.10
Classicmenu Indicator is a handy appindicator that allows one to quickly access applications in a traditional "old" GNOME 2 way. Basically, Classicmenu Indicator behaves just like a regular GNOME 2 menu and features an Ubuntu logo icon for folks that are still familiar with regular system menus.

Writing standalone programs with EGL and KMS
Both on dri-devel and at the most recent Kernel Summit, the idea of a KMS based console program came up yet again. So in the interest of facilitating the lazyweb to write one, I thought I’d provide a review of what it takes to write a simple KMS program that ties in with GL, just in case anyone wants to port the VTE widget and give me my VTs on a cube.
