How the Drupal project was able to define the window of vulnerability is thanks in no small part to its community of hosting vendors. Greg Knaddison, director of engineering at Card.com and a member of the Drupal Security Team, explained to eWEEK that several companies that provide hosting focused on Drupal decided to create platform-level protection against this issue that not only mitigated the attacks, but also recorded data about them.

This week, Zend announced its new Zend Server 8 platform, with a heavy emphasis on a feature it calls Z-ray. The Zend Server platform was first introduced back in 2009 and has steadily been improved ever since. The basic idea behind the Z-Ray is that much like an X-Ray (with the Z standing for Zend), the feature looks into the applications that the server is delivering.

n the Utopic Unicorn, Juju now has the ability to "charm" Hadoop big data deployments, making it easier for server administrators to deploy big data processing and analytics.

Juju isn't just for deploying Linux-only workloads anymore either: The orchestration system can now deploy Microsoft Windows Server-based workloads, Baker said. OpenStack Juno Brings Big Data to the Cloud

OpenStack is built by a community of open-source developers that contribute code to the project. For Juno, 1,419 developers from 400 different companies participated in the development process. From a code perspective, 3,200 bugs were fixed and 310 new features were added during the Juno development cycle. The OpenStack vendor community includes the largest names in the technology world, with Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, Dell, AT&T, IBM and VMware among the partner companies.

"Overall, the biggest theme in Juno is the maturity of the project and we had 10 times as many bugs fixed as we had features added," Jonathan Bryce, executive director of the OpenStack Foundation told eWEEK

Google Patches Chrome for 159 Security Vulnerabilities

In total, Google is patching 159 security vulnerabilities in Chrome 38, which is one of the highest numbers of security-related fixes for any single browser ever released. Going a step further, Google noted that it also made "113 relatively minor fixes" that it found with its open-source Memory Sanitizer application. Other browser vendors likely might have also counted the 113 memory fixes in their security totals, so for argument's sake, let's say that Chrome 38 fixes 272 security related issues.
