LLVM Clang 3.4 SVN Compiler Tests With Core-AVX2

For those curious about the performance of LLVM/Clang 3.4 -- the current development code of the increasingly-used open-source cross-platform compiler -- here's some new tests done on an Intel Core i7 "Haswell" processor with using the compiler's "core-avx2" optimizations and benchmarks comparing it to the stable LLVM 3.3 release.

Ubuntu Touch stable Nexus release due Oct. 17

Canonical’s Ubuntu Project confirmed it would release the first stable build of the Ubuntu Touch mobile OS on Oct. 17, as part of the release of Ubuntu 13.10. Ubuntu Touch will not only be available for Nexus smartphones, including the GSM Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4, but also for the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets.

Zhongshan Gosinggo has begun selling a 4.1 x 1.5 x 0.6-inch Android 4.1 mini-PC that includes both WiFi and Ethernet ports. The Gosinggo GSG-TB-06 is equipped with a 1GHz Allwinner A10 processor and Mali-400 GPU, as well as 1GB of DDR3 RAM, up to 32GB of flash, an HDMI port, and dual USB ports.

Android-based IVI system ships in 15 Renault cars

Renault’s Android-based R-Link in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) tablet is now available in 15 Renault car models, selling as a 599 Euro ($800) option. The R-Link system’s 7-inch touchscreen provides TomTom navigation services, Bluetooth audio streaming, speech recognition and text-to-speech, and on Renault’s electric cars, extensive “eco functions” including a service for tracking remaining range.

Sailfish gains two-way Android compatibility

Jolla announced that its Sailfish OS is now fully compatible with Android, letting the Linux-based mobile OS run Android apps, as well as operate on hardware configured for Android. Jolla also announced that a second batch of pre-orders for its Sailfish-based Jolla phones will open later this week, after having sold out its first shipment in August.
