This is an ad by Microsoft. Why did the editors go ahead/along with this? Did they not check who sponsored it? Or did Slashdot too get paid?
Libre-SOC Insiders Explain How Libre-SOC and Funding for Libre-SOC (From NLNet) Got 'Hijacked' or Seized
It seems like a case of breaking down a person completely, then taking away his life's project (that he had already started when he was my colleague 13 years ago) and even the funding for the project.
For the First Time Since May Linux.com (Linux Foundation) Published Something. It's All Spam.
Can we trust the Linux Foundation to look after anything at all? Look what it turned this once-thriving site into.
The Ludicrous Idea That GNU/Linux is a "Poor Man's" Operating System
Today, as of a few hours ago, statCounter measures GNU/Linux at just 0.01% below a value that would have it rounded up(wards) to 4.5%
Red Hat Keeps Behaving Like a Microsoft Reseller (for Proprietary Stuff!), Microsoft Employees as Authors in redhat.com
In some ways this reminds us of Novell
Billions of Computers Run Linux and Many Use Debian (or a Derivative of It)
Many devices never get updated or even communicate with the Net, so exhaustive tallies are infeasible.
Holly Million, GNOME Foundation departure after Albanian whistleblower revelations
There was a panic to remove references to Albanian from the GNOME Foundation web site
Guardianship of the Licence is Not Enough (the Case of Systemd and Microsoft)
THE Linux Foundation almost never chooses the GPL (it didn't choose it for Linux or Git) and it's hardly surprising given the true controllers of this so-called 'charitable' (not!) foundation. Bruce Perens said that “Linux Foundation is an infringer's club.” They dislike the GPL, but sometimes they merely inherit it.
ZDNet Kills the Linux RSS Feed (Syndication Redirected to Loads of Marketing Spam and Fake Articles)
The state of online journalism is worsening very rapidly this year
Debian Needs a Significant Change of Direction and Recognition of Cumulative Errors Made
They just attack the messenger without ever answering the message.
What's Growing in the United States This Year is GNU/Linux, Not the Latest Windows
One might argue this data points to a silent exodus from Windows to GNU/Linux
Larissa Brown Shapiro & Mozilla concerned other organizations taking advantage of kids in open source
In April 2024, internal emails from Mozilla were published about the harassment scandals in Debian and the Balkan countries
Whistleblowers from Open Labs Hackerspace, Albania in GNOME, Wikimedia, OpenStreetMap & Debian
I was invited to go and spend weekend time as a speaker at the OSCAL conference. The request to support harassment victims was not something that was anticipated.
GNU/Linux and ChromeOS Rising in Zambia, Android Rises Above 72%, and Windows Down to Only 7%
Windows is down, Android is surging, and even GNU/Linux is doing reasonable well.
Getting Rid of Microsoft Does Not Go Far Enough
Microsoft already has many problems. One day Microsoft won't exist anymore. But that does not guarantee users' freedom.
Microsoft: By Default, Destroy Linux
For a lot of software on GNU/Linux, it is nowadays not possible to install/use without systemd
Torvalds' Number Two Quit Linux a Decade Ago and Has Since Then Earned an Honorary Doctorate
Cox isn't limited to hardcore kernel stuff, having also worked on GNOME and X.Org. Unlike Torvalds, he's not shy to use the "F" word (freedom).
Free Software Won't Fix Equality, But It Helps
Can Free software bridge the economic gap? Well, it certainly can help. Removing financial barriers can help a lot. That can also help people from underprivileged communities or developing (poor) countries get involved, either as developers or something else.
12 Days Have Passed Since the Edward Brocklesby Revelations and Debian Project Has Said Absolutely Nothing About That
One must therefore assume they have nothing to say in their defence (covering up severe security failings). IMAGINE something very damaging being presented, with full context, based on original material, right from the horse's own mouth. One might expect, at the very least, a face-saving statement, such as "well, that was a long time ago" or "we learned our lessons"...Well, Debian does not work that way. Instead, like a cult, it only attacked the messenger.
A Smokescreen for Brad Smith
Maybe the key point was to say "Linux is not secure either" or "Windows and Linux are equally vulnerable", so don't bother dumping Microsoft.
