Linux Foundation's CII Continues to Fund Open-Source Security Efforts

In terms of where the CII is allocating its money, Zemlin said that it has committed roughly half of the money it has raised so far to a variety of projects and efforts over a three-year period. In addition to OpenSSL and GnuPG, the CII is also providing support to OpenSSH, the Open Crypto Audit Project and Bash projects. More project funding news will be coming in the future, according to Zemlin.

The world's first Ubuntu Linux phone is now available, two years after the effort to bring Ubuntu to phones was first announced by Canonical, the lead commercial sponsor of Ubuntu Linux. The new Ubuntu phone is actually not new hardware; it's an Ubuntu Linux edition of the BQ Aquaris E4.5 device that is already in the market as an Android smartphone.

VMware has been actively involved in the OpenStack community since at least 2012 and has been a leading contributor to multiple projects, including the OpenStack Neutron networking effort. With VIO, VMware is providing its customers with a full OpenStack cloud platform that integrates with existing VMware technologies, including vSphere server virtualization.

"We've now completed the VIO beta period and had really good feedback," Dan Wendlandt, director of product management for OpenStack at VMware, told eWEEK
