In May 2013, Google shut down Google Code Download services. At the time, I thought that it made no sense, after all what good is a code repository when developers can't use the service to enable binary downloads?

Linux vendor SUSE today announced the general availability of its SUSE OpenStack Cloud 5 distribution, providing users with an updated infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) platform. The SUSE OpenStack Cloud product is a rebranding of the SUSE Cloud product that first entered the market in August 2012.

IBM Exposes Critical Dropbox Android Vulnerability

The flaw, now identified as CVE-2014-8889, was found inside the Dropbox SDK (software development kit) for Android and could have potentially enabled an attacker to insert an arbitrary access token, to give the attacker access to user information.

IBM built a proof-of-concept exploit that it calls "DroppedIn" to test the impact of the vulnerability. Using the exploit, IBM found that 76 percent of the apps that it analyzed that leverage the Dropbox SDK were at risk from the flaw.

Firefox 37 Feature to Improve SSL/TLS Certificate Security

Mozilla will include a new SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)/TLS (Transport Layer Security) certificate checking mechanism in the upcoming Firefox 37 browser release, which is scheduled to become generally available on March 31.

Ashesh Badani, vice president and general manager of OpenShift at Red Hat told ServerWatch that the key Red Hatidea behind OpenShift Commons is to enable open and transparent discussion.

Red Hat's OpenShift platform is already available in three deployment models including OpenShift Online, OpenShift Enterprise and the OpenShift Origin open-source project. Participants in the OpenShift Commons include Accenture, Cisco, Cloudera, Hortonworks, CA and Orange among others.

Zemlin quoted the oft-repeated Linus' law, which states that given enough eyes all bugs are shallow. That "law" essentially promises that many eyes provide a measure of quality and control and security to open source code. So if Linus' law is true, Zemlin asked, why are damaging security issues being found now in open source code?

CoreOS and the App Container Spec

CoreOS is developing its own Docker replacement, CoreOS Rocketboth in terms of technology with Rocket and in terms of an actual specification for defining what an application container is all about. The App Container Specification (appc) is currently in development and has some important differences in contrast to Docker.
