At work we image laptops with clonezilla. An average of 10 a day. A colleague and I have created a custom script to speed up the imaging. It is a little script, but it speeds up the restoring because you don't have to make choices anymore. It is fully customizable, and easy to understand.

EasyConverter v0.3a

So I bought my dad a new MP3 player. His iPod was from 2005 so it was time for a new one. Almost all of Dad's music files are .flac or .wav. The iPod played them thanks to rockbox. This one does not. And my dad is more like the average user, so I wrote a little program to help him. Well, program, more like a ffmpeg wrapper with Zenity. But it works and he thinks its easier than opening a terminal and executing a script in a folder. (which I disagree). So here is EasyConverter v0.3a, a nice GUI for something simple.

And here is another solution to one of my problems. Ever since I use awesome and awsetbg to switch wallpapers every 5 minutes, feh sometimes bugs up a popup. Well, that is now solved since there were some problems with filename characters. A massive rename solves it. And with Massive I mean over 1500 wallpapers ;).

Set your IP as Wallpaper with convert and feh

Today @ work we had a crashed PC. The PC served as a wall monitor to show the call central display via remote desktop. They said to me: Go fix it, no matter how you do it, fix it!. So I installed ubuntu, but the pc on win2k was called sparky. They vnc'd into it just by typing sparky. Now for some strange reason that doesn't work anymore, and I did not had time to fix it. So I made a script that sets the IP as wallpaper so that they can type that in ultravnc. (Later I thought that it would be better to auto-start uVNC to the central at login, but that did not came up on my mind earlier.) (And even later I discovered the /etc/hostname file was empty, and after I set that with 'sparky' it worked again...)

The Cons about Linux

This is a response on an article at my neighbor site: http://www.nintenlord.com/x/?page_id=405. This time, it is not Pro Linux, but Con Linux. I agree with David's article, but many people do not. So I'd like to sum up what most people walk into when trying Linux. Note: This is written out of the viewpoint of a regular user that wants to try Linux. Not from "our" viewpoints. These are the points most people complain about. Agree with it or not, it is the reality. (At least, for a lot of people). 1. The most Linux distro’s are free of charge (and good). Also, the most Linux software are free of charge (and good). And there are lots of them! So, enough choice. For every Windows software are most likely different Linux alternatives.

Customize Your Clonezilla Live CD

At work we need to image laptops. We do that with clonezilla. But some people think the clonezilla menu ias to hard. So A colleague and I made a script to do it in 2 steps (mount and enter image name). But that had to be integrated in to the clonezilla live CD. That is a pain to do if you're on a windows vista PC. But it worked, and I wanted to share it with the rest of the world.

When I am at school, and I read that Slackware 13 is out, I need to have it. And I want it at home. So, what I can do is SSH into my machine, wget it, and it is done when I'm at home. But, at school SSH is blocked, and a lot of other things, like FTP, Youtube and they have a large Internet Filter. So, I need to have an other solution. Now I have it. You need to have an web server that is able to do PHP. I myself use lighttpd with PHP via fastCGI.

Antix M8.2, A review, install guide and comparison to Linux Mint

I have an old pc, it's from 2005. (2.4 Ghz P4, 512MB RAM, 80GByte HDD and an 64MB nvidia graphics card. I mostly use Linux mint, on all my PC's. At school via a USB stick, and at work via mint4win. But on my home PC it was getting rather slow and hoggy. So I was looking for a distro that would run fast on my main PC, and has built in 3G functionality. Not much choices remain.
