Cinnarch as a distribution based on Arch works pretty well, but the DE it uses (GNOME 3/Cinnamon) requires a lot more work before I could see myself using it regularly.
Review: openSUSE 12.2 KDE
After a disappointing version 12.1, openSUSE is back with version 12.2, and I find that it works really well!
Review: Manjaro Linux 0.8.0 Xfce
It reminds me a lot of Bridge Linux in most ways, and it does have a few additional niceties.
Long-Term Review: Linux Mint 13 LTS "Maya" KDE
A Plasma crash marred the experience for me, and there was nothing else outstanding to compensate for that.
Review: Stella 6.3
A couple weeks ago on an unrelated review, I remember a commenter asking if I could review a Linux distribution called Stella. It seemed interesting, but I didn't think much of it until the last few days when its release of version 6.3 made news on several major Linux news sites. At that point I knew I should check it out, so here it is. (Also, if Tennessee Williams were alive today, I think that "A Linux Distribution Named 'Stella'" would have made a great title for one of his plays. Yes, I really did have to make that pun, and it won't be the last time either.)
My Installation of Linux Mint 13 "Maya" Xfce
I installed Linux Mint 13 LTS "Maya" Xfce on my personal laptop today, and it seems to be working really well in replicating my old experience. So far I'm pretty happy with it.
Long-Term Review: Linux Mint 13 LTS "Maya" Xfce
After 8 days of a great desktop that's as close to my current personal laptop setup as I've seen in any modern Linux distribution thus far, I think I'll keep this one.
Review: Linux Mint 13 LTS "Maya" KDE
It had trouble with some local video files, so I may not be able to use it for myself, but I can highly recommend it.
Review: Linux Mint 13 LTS "Maya" Xfce
Thus far, I've had quite a bit of trouble finding a suitable modern replacement for my current desktop setup. No longer: I believe Linux Mint with Xfce may be it.
Long-Term Review: Kubuntu 12.04 LTS
After 7 days of using Kubuntu, I quite like what I see. It's pretty fast, very stable, and works well for me.
Long-Term Review: Chakra 2012.05 "Archimedes"
This is for all the people who complain about me doing reviews of only the live session. Anyway, as for Chakra itself, installing and using it exposed me to many more issues, so my assessment is a bit more tempered than it has been before.
Preview: CrunchBang ("#!") Linux 11 "Waldorf"
For an alpha release, it's incredibly good, and it already does basically everything that I want it to do. Color me impressed!
Review: Pinguy OS 12.04 LTS
Though I wouldn't use it myself due to a few specific issues, it continues to be a great, user-friendly distribution.
Review: Sabayon 9 KDE
It's fast, stable, has what I want, and does what I want. It's the best yet.
Review: Netrunner 4.2 LTS "Dryland" SE
It looks pretty slick, but it's just too quirky and inconsistent (for my tastes, at least).
Review: Zorin OS 6 Core
Due to issues with Compiz and slight stability problems, I won't be using it, but it seems pretty good.
Review: Linux Mint 13 LTS "Maya" MATE
As a user who has found perfection in Linux Mint 9 LTS "Isadora" GNOME, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, this new version has taken a few steps backward, and that makes me sad.
PCLinuxOS (Kinda) Saved My Laptop
PCLinuxOS was there for me when I needed it most.
Review: ROSA 2012 "Marathon"
It's basically the same as Mandriva 2011 "Hydrogen", but that is by design.
Review: SolusOS 1 "Eveline"
I wasn't able to test some stuff due to root password issues, so that will have to wait until a revisit in the future. Until then, it looks pretty sweet!
