It has a graphical installation program, but it is of no use when it comes to installing applications or updating the few that are installed. Since the release of Linpus Lite Desktop 1.4, which I reviewed here, Linpus Lite Desktop has been going down hill, both in terms of features and in the number of applications installed out of the box.

Take the installer, for example. A beautiful, graphical program that in Linpus Lite Desktop 1.4 and Linpus Lite Desktop 1.6 had features somewhat on par with YALI, the installation program of Pardus. In this latest release, that installation program has been reduced to a shell of the previous editions. The interface is still beautiful, but beyond that, it has turned into a joke. A very bad one at that.

If you currently use another edition of Linux Mint 12, like Linux Mint 12 KDE or Linux Mint 12 GNOME, you will find that there is very little difference, if any, in functionality between this LXDE edition and those other more popular editions, other than for some LXDE-specific applications. However, if you are new to Linux Mint, this brief review will take you through some of the features of this user-friendly desktop distribution.

Oracle’s history of not caring too much about Free Software led several contributors to fork OpenOffice.org. And that is a very brief account of how LibreOffice came to be. Not knowing what to do with OpenOffice.org after most of the contributors left to join The Document Foundation, which oversees the development of LibreOffice, Oracle donated OpenOffice.org to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) on June 1 2011. Since then, the ASF has been working behind the scenes to take over complete control of the project’s development. It has since been renamed to Apache OpenOffice. So what exactly has the ASF being doing? The following graphic, published in a blog post here, provides a clue.

Though I tend to stay away from publicly reviewing distributions that use the default GNOME 3 desktop, I evaluate them privately and if I come across one that has been modified to look like a true desktop operating system, then I will take the time to do what it takes to publish a review on it. Linux Deepin falls into that category. So expect a review of Linux Deepin soon.

While I am still working on the review, here are a few screen shots for your viewing pleasure.
