UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is a replacement for BIOS, and it is very likely that any computer or motherboard you buy today will have UEFI instead of BIOS firmware.

That was a lengthy introduction, but it was necessary. Here is a condensed version: Get a UEFI system with an SSD and an HDD. Install Windows 7 on the SSD. Set the boot device to the HDD. Install Ubuntu 12.04 on the HDD. Reboot. Select Windows 7 or Ubuntu from GRUB’s menu. Have a fun computing.

Verizon can change that password. In other to do that, they must have a master password, or as it is known in some circles, a backdoor. To Verizon, it is an administrative password. The only problem is their “administrative password” can unlock your administrative password.

In this alpha release, Firewalld is installed and running, but firewall-applet is not installed. This, for example, is the interface for firewall-config. It does not work, so I could not mess with it. But you can tell that the final product will be easy to manage.

The first Technical Preview, code-named Bernie Lomax, was released back in May, and the next pre-release version, which is due by early October, will likely be the first Beta.

Not that it is a succeeded, but it is good attempt. Apple has nothing to worry about. The latest edition is Pear Linux 5. Code-named Sunsprite, it is based on Ubuntu 12.04, using (Linux) kernel 3.2.

Tip Number 4: Every tip in this article is important, but this is even more so. When attempting to dual-boot on a computer with one hard drive, do not install Linux or make the mistake of installing Linux on the same partition that Windows is installed on. That is the same thing as deleting your C drive. So look before you install.
