Linux Mint 17.3 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop experience more comfortable to use. Software repositories are very important. We use them all the time when installing new software or performing updates. They need to be fast and reliable. This was a major point of focus in the development of Linux Mint 17.3.

Version 7.6.0 of KNOPPIX is based on the usual picks from Debian stable (jessie) and newer graphics drivers or desktop software packages from Debian/testing and Debian/unstable (sid). It uses kernel 4.2.2 and xorg 7.7 (core 1.17.3) for supporting current computer hardware.

The status of the 4MLinux 14.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Major change in the core of the system, which now uses GNU Compiler Collection 5.2.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture. Audacious (audio player), Opera (web browser), SMTube (YouTube browser) and VLC (media player) are now available as downloadable extensions.

Stefan Gronewold has announced the launch of Pisi Linux 1.2. Pisi Linux is a modern distribution which originally forked from Pardus Linux, but which is now maintained independently. Pisi Linux uses the PiSi package manager and ships with the KDE desktop. The new release is the second update (and final release) of the 1.x series. Version 1.2 ships with a number of significant package upgrades, including a new Linux kernel, a copy of Qt 5, MATE 1.8.0 and version 4.14 of the KDE desktop environment. Currently, Pisi Linux 1.2 is available in one, desktop-oriented edition with the KDE desktop acting as the default user interface. The Linux kernel is at version 3.19.

The Point Linux team proudly announces the availability of Point Linux 3.0. This release replaces the GNOME 3 flavour with XFce. Both flavours got the new Point Linux Update Notifier that will keep your system up-to-date. Point Linux Xfce also comes with the Compton window compositor installed by default, bringing some eye candy to your Xfce desktop. The full editions include the latest Firefox and Thunderbird releases.

LliureX 15.05 has been released. LliureX is a project of the Council of Culture, Education and Sport at the Municipality of Valencia, Spain. The LliureX distribution is an Edubuntu-based live and installation DVD with support for the Valencian and Spanish languages. It is intended as an operating system for educational institutions in the Valencia region. LliureX uses exclusively free software and is distributed free of charge.
