PLplot is a cross-platform software package for creating scientific plots that has been in continuous development since its inception 17 years ago. On May 23, 2009 the PLplot developers quietly celebrated our ten thousandth commit since our initial software repository was populated back in May 1992.

Version 5.9.2 of PLplot has been released. PLplot is a cross-platform, scientific graphics plotting library.
yPlot-1.2.0 has been released
Version 1.2.0 of yPlot has been released. This is a scientific graphics plotting package implemented as a Yorick interface to PLplot.

FreeEOS is a software library for calculating an equation of state for conditions in stellar interiors.
libLASi-1.1.0 is released
libLASi is a library originally written by Larry Siden that provides a C++ stream output interface ( with operator << ) for creating Postscript documents that can contain characters from any of the scripts and symbol blocks supported in Unicode and by Owen Taylor's Pango layout engine.

A new copyright law is coming [Canada]
Ottawa copyright circles are buzzing with hints that the government is preparing its new revised copyright bill, and will be tabling it soon, perhaps as early as next week. And the buzz is that the new law will basically be a copy of the controversial U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Version 1.4.0 of the Linux Brochure Project (LBP) has been released. LBP is a GPL'd Linux advocacy and publicity project which documents key Linux information in a standard-sized brochure . A Spanish translation has been added for this release. French and Italian translations are also available.
