There was an IRC meeting yesterday regarding the Nautilus UI and a lot of design as well as functionality changes were proposed. Some of these are already confirmed as TO DO such as:
gThumb 2.11.x Development Build Adds Photobucket Exporting Capabilities
I'm a bit sad gThumb 2.11.x (photo manager) was removed from the Ubuntu 10.04 official repositories because the 2.11.x development branch is amazing! gThumb 2.11.x can now export your photos to PicasaWeb, Facebook, Flickr and a few days ago it also added Photobucket to the list.

Battery Status 0.1 Released - Improved Battery Applet For The Gnome Desktop
Battery Status is a project for GNOME, that shows information about laptop battery state. It comes with a lot of additional features, so usual icon of GNOME Power Manager can be removed from Notification/Indicator Area. Don't worry about the battery icon in Ubuntu being a part of the Indicator Applet, when you first add Battery Status to the panel, it will ask to remove the default battery icon (but will keep the Indicator Applet).
Google Open Sources VP8 Video Codec, Packs It Into WebM Video Format - Already Available On YouTube
As you probably know, a Google I/O conference was held today and a lot of blogs said they will announce big things. AWN Lucido: New Avant Window Navigator Style (Ubuntu .deb Download)
A amazing new style for Avant Window Navigator called "Lucido Style" was posted @ AWN forums. The code is already available in a BZR branch but it has not been merged into AWN yet. If you want to try it already, I've built Ubuntu .deb packages for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala and 10.04 Lucid Lynx which you can download below.
Ubuntu (w/ GNOME) Switching To Single Click For Opening Files And Folders?
A new big change is being discussed on the Ayatana mailing list: single click for opening files and folders in Ubuntu (not Kubuntu - which already uses single click for opening files and folders). In fact there are 2 separate threads: one about defaulting to single click for opening file and folders and another to use a single-click mode for all GNOME applications - but only the first one seems to be seriously taken into consideration. The rationale behind this is:
Finally An Easy Way To Customize Notify OSD Notification Bubbles [Ubuntu PPA]
Notify OSD has been in Ubuntu for a long time yet for some odd reason, it never supported any kind of customizations so if you wanted to change it's color or position you had to compile it with the new settings. But there is an Ubuntu PPA with a patched Notify OSD for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala and Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx which supports customizations via a simple text file so you don't have to compile it and can change the Notify OSD settings on the fly.
Gnome Shell Might Add Real Multiple Desktops
Right now you have multiple desktops but only from the applications point of view: you can move applications from one desktop to another and that's it. There is currently a mockup posted @ Gnome Shell Design Playground website (and a lot of discussion about it on the Gnome Shell mailing list) which seems very interesting:
Taking Ubuntu Unity Interface For A Test Drive [Screenshots and Video]
The new Unity interface for Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition and Ubuntu Light will remind you of Gnome Shell, but Unity seems more usable, with the "dock" panel on the left. We took Ubuntu Unity interface for a test drive, so here are some screenshots and video I just took, as well as explainations on how the Unity dock works.
