Rather, it’s main purpose is as a control and informational device, kinda like a modern-day remote control, aside from also being a traditional, but cooler wrist watch. I said “cooler,” because Pebble is a thing of beauty, both from a geek’s and end-user’s standpoint.

I don’t know, but the most important trend indicator at this stage does not look good: The Operators and OEMs page on the project’s site does not list any OEMs, not one. That tells you how much OEM-clout (OEM-convincing power) Canonical has, or does not have.

Aside from the DNS issue (slow Internet access), another thing I observed when applying updates is shown in the image below. Note that these unauthenticated packages are not third-party updates, but core software available in the default repository. To me, that’s a major security concern.

Aside from the KDE, GNOME 3, LXDE and Xfce desktop environments, users also have the option of running the MATE and Cinnamon desktop environments. The only problem, and a very minor one, is that there are no separate installation images for MATE and Cinnamon.
