Fedora Drafts Plans For Retiring ARMv7 Support
It's crazy to think it has already been ten years since Arm disclosed ARMv8 with 64-bit support. Given the success of ARMv8 (and Armv9 now on the way) and there not being much in the way of useful ARMv7 hardware in recent years and the like, Fedora has drafted plans for retiring its ARMv7 support.

Windows 11 Outperforms Linux With Alder Lake CPUs, Scheduler to Blame
A report from Phoronix has revealed that Intel's Alder Lake CPUs perform much better in a Windows 11 environment than with Linux-based operating systems. The problem is related to issues with Linux's cluster scheduler, which isn't optimized for Alder Lake's hybrid architecture. That means that Alder Lake, which are now the new Best CPUs for gaming, are better suited for Windows 11 than Linux. That's somewhat surprising given that Linux typically outperforms all flavors of Windows.
Linux 5.16's New Cluster Scheduling Is Causing Regression, Further Hurting Alder Lake
Linux 5.16-rc1 is coming out later today and already I'm seeing some fallout in the new kernel's performance... In particular, bad news for Alder Lake that is already seeing the Linux performance trailing Windows 11 seemingly due to the lack of Thread Director integration right now in the kernel and any other missing optimizations around Intel's hybrid architecture.

DistroWatch Weekly, Issue 943, 15 November 2021
One of the great frustrations many Android and GNU/Linux users face is that it is difficult to get traditional desktop Linux applications running on Android and it's even less likely an Android application will run on Linux desktop distributions. There are a few projects which attempt to address this issue of applications built for different Linux-based ecosystems not being portable. One such project is called Waydroid.

The rise of the cloud data warehouse
The cloud has a habit of transforming on-premises technologies that have existed for decades. It absorbed business applications that used to run exclusively on local servers. It embraced the databases they relied on, presenting an alternative to costly proprietary implementations. And it has also driven new efficiencies into one of the most venerable on-premises data analytics technologies of all: the data warehouse.
A Firefox mobile product manager on her favorite corners of the internet
Here at Mozilla, we are the first to admit the internet isn’t perfect, but we are also quick to point out that the internet is pretty darn magical. The internet opens up doors and opportunities, allows for people to connect with others, and lets everyone find where they belong — their corners of the internet. We all have an internet story worth sharing. In My Corner Of The Internet, we talk with people about the online spaces they can’t get enough of, what we should save in Pocket to read later, and what sites and forums shaped them.

Torvalds releases Linux 5.16 rc1, with performance-enhancing memory tech
Linus Torvalds has loosed the first release candidate for version 5.16 of the Linux kernel. In his Sunday afternoon State of the Kernel announcement, Torvalds indicated the merge window for the new release did not include any "uhhuh, things aren't working and now I need to bisect where they broke" moments. Work therefore proceeded swiftly, so much so that not even travelling for a few days and using a laptop (which Torvalds wrote is "usually fairly painful") delayed progress.
