A report from Phoronix has revealed that Intel's Alder Lake CPUs perform much better in a Windows 11 environment than with Linux-based operating systems. The problem is related to issues with Linux's cluster scheduler, which isn't optimized for Alder Lake's hybrid architecture. That means that Alder Lake, which are now the new Best CPUs for gaming, are better suited for Windows 11 than Linux. That's somewhat surprising given that Linux typically outperforms all flavors of Windows.

Linux 5.16-rc1 is coming out later today and already I'm seeing some fallout in the new kernel's performance... Linus Torvalds has loosed the first release candidate for version 5.16 of the Linux kernel. In his Sunday afternoon State of the Kernel announcement, Torvalds indicated the merge window for the new release did not include any "uhhuh, things aren't working and now I need to bisect where they broke" moments. Work therefore proceeded swiftly, so much so that not even travelling for a few days and using a laptop (which Torvalds wrote is "usually fairly painful") delayed progress.

The source reports that the first enablement patches for Intel's next-gen Raptor Lake CPU family will begin to roll out in the coming weeks. The first patch that rolled out yesterday only adds the Raptor Lake ID (ID 183) to the Linux OS and while it is not that exciting, more patches are going to roll out in the coming weeks.
