The Diagramming In Linux course is a 10 page briefing on how to get started with the Dia application in Linux. The course was created for Ubuntu users but also includes a Windows installation tutorial as Dia is available for both operating systems. In addition to the Dia installation this course will outline how to find important tools in the Dia interface, using Dia's tools, and more.

The Ubuntu Server operating system has not yet become as widely used as the Ubuntu desktop edition, but it is slowly getting there. A recent Ubuntu global survey showed that only 28% of respondents were from the US, and the majority of these were using the OS only for basic functions such as Web, database and backup servers while only a small minority used it for advanced work such as cluster computing or virtualization. On the other hand, most respondents said they are assigning mission critical tasks to the OS and are planning to add more Ubuntu OS servers in the future.

Nano is an alternative text editor. The key sequences in nano are entered using the keyboard, making nano a "modeless" editor, unlike vim. With the exception of Control and Meta key sequences, all the keys will enter text into the file being edited. You do not have to switch modes at all. In addition, nano provides some text aids. A shell is a program that acts as an intermediary between the user and the Linux kernel. The shell receives commands from the user through typed words and passes them into the kernel for processing. Before using Pardus, I had read in the Pardus release announcement that Pardus had been “improved graphically in every part of the distribution”. It takes about 3 seconds to realize this as you put in the Pardus CD and immediately notice splash screens that have been updated from bootloader to login screen.
