Skype, now under the control of Microsoft, has announced a new developer preview of SkypeKit. It surprisingly brings good news for Linux users.

HP plans to use ARM-based processors in some of its data center servers, according to a pair of Oct. 26 reports. The CPUs in question will apparently be quad-core Cortex-A9 SoCs (systems on chip), expected to be introduced by Calxeda on Nov. 1....

eWEEK magazine announced that its content will soon be available via apps written for Windows Phone 7, Android, and iOS phones, plus other devices including iPad and Android tablets. Last week the 2011 GNOME User Survey began, which is an independent survey that was devised by members of the GNOME community to collect feedback on their desktop platform. With the GNOME Foundation not interested in hosting the survey, these survey creators came to Phoronix to host the survey. Some of the initial GNOME comments were shared shortly after the survey went live. This survey will be running for one month, but there were already more than 8,000 submissions in the first few days. Here's the first 1,000 comments provided by participants of the GNOME survey.
