Articles like this just kill me. Granted, this piece was written a while back, and even considering the date in which the piece was first put together, it remains the single biggest mess that I have ever laid eyes on. Linux and wireless is a mess, period.

Alright, I’m going to say this. I think Microsoft should acquire Linux. Now, I understand that Linux is not as independent of an OS as Windows; it’s a movement towards the open environment for applications; therefore, the standard M&A process won’t work.

Considering the inclusion of Red Hat with Dell on the server level, you might have thought that this would have happened a long time ago. Well, better late than never, I suppose. I have just discovered that Dell is looking into bundling the big three Linux distributions (OpenSuSE, Ubuntu and Fedora) to those who might be interested.

"Apple hasn't done any of those things." Bill, seriously, Apple has not needed to do any of the following as they do not make a practice out of egging on hackers to exploit their OS. That and Apple’s market share is not as large as Windows, therefore the time spent targeting you and yours offers a larger bang for the effort.

If you were asked to name a few operating systems, the first ones that would fly forth from your lips would probably be Windows, OS X, and possibly even Linux, but unless you’re trying to impress someone with your knowledge of all things related to operating systems, that’s likely about as far as you would go.

Unless you have been living under a rock in the media sense, surely by now you have heard the news of Cuba embracing open source and all that it has to offer. Unfortunately, much of the mainstream press is likely to once again point to open source and claim that it is anti-free enterprise, which could be a problem.

Theory versus practice - I don't think there’s a better solution in making sure that software developers are ready for the challenges of tomorrow than catching them while they are still in school, and then plugging them into an open source software project.

It's humorous and sad, all at the same time. Vista users are closer than ever to the woes that used to plague many Linux users. The fact is that if you need NVIDA graphics to work with your favorite game, you just may be out of luck here.

Unless you live in a vacuum, you must’ve heard the talk about Novell finding itself under the Free Software Foundation's microscope. The idea of Rhapsody offering a Linux music service is fantastic, except for the fact that they have opted not to allow the full functionality offer to those in the Windows world. It really is a let down for Linux users, but is this something that we can blame Rhapsody for?

As we witness the release of Windows Vista to the world at large, I thought it was interesting to see the evolution of BeOS coming back into the spotlight. Today, the spirit of BeOS remains alive and well in OpenBeOS' latest incarnation, known as Haiku.

Earlier today, I stumbled upon an article that was filled with reader comments stating that the sellers of open source software are to be dismissed as scam artists. Those in this crowd that actually understand the legal bindings of the individual license(s) and definition of open source generally pointed out that they feel such sales are unethical - just not illegal.

As luck would have it, GetDeb.net is back at work after the holidays, and while browsing their latest package additions, I happened upon an update to one of my all time favorite Linux games - SuperTux. For the uninformed, SuperTux is a fantastic 2D video game that was made available for all the popular distributions; in addition, to a number of other platforms including desktop and mobile.

It's maddening. For someone who is trying make a daily use of what is to be considered a beginner friendly distribution for the first time, most options leave a lot to be desired for the uninitiated. Without a doubt, one of the biggest problems that I had when I was transitioning from Windows to Linux was losing immediate access to Adobe Premiere Elements. To the video beginner, it can present a little bit of a learning curve, but for someone like me, it’s irreplaceable. Short of buying an Adobe Premiere, I could not have been happier.

There is no question about it, Linux and tax software have not been the best fit over the years. As expected, the usual excuses were being used: there are not enough Linux users to warrant a Linux version, or if people want, there is always the online options made readily available to those who chose not to.
